He joined Real Madrid from southamerican soccer 16 years ago. Marcelo Vieira da Silva Júnior was then just a promising Brazilian left back who had an immense challenge ahead of him: to be the generational replacement in a position at the club with a name of his own, that of his fellow countryman and 2002 World Champion Roberto Carlos.

Step by step, through quality and dedication, and because the calendar does not forgive mortals, the carioca's made his debut with the merengue team for the first time against Deportivo la Coruña in 2007. And it was not until June 13 that he put an end to his Madrid career.

He leaves behind him an almost endless trail of titles, so many that he is credited as the player with the most trophies in the history of the Chamartín team. His trophy cabinet boasts a staggering ¡25! trophies, including 4 Club World Cups, 5 Champions Leagues, 6 Spanish Leagues, 3 European Super Cups, 2 Copa del Rey and 5 Spanish Super Cups. His offensive figures in all competitions -according to the digital publication Transfermarkt- are excellent, especially for a winger like him.

After 16 years as part of the most successful club in the world in the sporting arena, with which he marked a milestone -both on and off the field-, Marcelo officially ended his career at Real Madrid. His galloping runs up the flank, his runs and control of the ball, and his dribbling that left more than a few opponents on the ground are still in the hearts of the fans. But, above all, that goal he scored against Atlético de Madrid to win the long-awaited Tenth European Cup and his tears of emotion.

On June 13, the team of his love, in the voice of its president Florentino Pérez and its millions of fans around the world, paid a well-deserved tribute to this man who arrived as a promising player and left in style, as the star he is. Real Madrid posted this video, which seems to be a brief glimpse of his successful career.

Also, several users uploaded their own creations to honor and bid farewell to the eternal 12 of the merengues. One of those who was undoubtedly one of the best in his position -if not the best- in all competitions. Madrid even created a commemorative shirt. Here is a brief compendium of what I was able to compile.
